impROV provide a vast wealth of 'Subsea
Engineering' experience in its personnel. This, though mainly based in
'Intervention' tooling and support, has diversified into other sectors of the
subsea environment.

Remote Interface Definition and Engineering
impROV
recognise that simply designing and manufacturing world class intervention
tooling is not enough to guarantee the operational success of a project.
Equally important is an understanding among all of the hardware design teams
contributing to the Subsea Solution, of intervention interface requirements.
Many in the industry will be familiar with problems which tend to arise at
Site Integration Tests for major subsea equipment packages. It is often the
case that:
 |
No commonality of interfaces
between various sub-systems
|
 | More
tools are required than anticipated because the project
team has not had a resource dedicated to minimising the amount of different tool interfaces on the hardware
|
 |
Structural members restricts ROV and tooling package access and have to be
re-positioned
|
 |
Installation personnel have difficulty handling the tooling as it may have
been designed around specific ROV’s rather than having been designed with a
more generic approach |
impROV
offer to become involved in the very early stages of the project to act as
Interface Managers and Interface Design Engineers, in addition to our role as
providers of tooling. We will take ownership of all intervention interface
issues, acting as the point of contact for all other product group engineers
and guiding them on interface design and intervention task identification. We
also take responsibility for early and clear communication with other parties,
such as ROV contractors,
interfacing to the intervention interfaces on the subsea system and the
tooling itself. This holistic approach saves many thousands of Dollars on a
subsea project of any size and complexity.
An example of this is a project offshore Vietnam where one of
impROV’s
management team was involved as the lead design engineer of the intervention
tooling and also as the Interface Manager. Complexities of the project
included:
 |
Manifold designed on London, manufactured in Australia |
 | Xmas
Trees designed and manufactured in
Aberdeen |
 |
Production Control System designed in
London, manufactured in
Aberdeen |
 |
Intervention Tooling designed and manufactured in
Aberdeen |
 | SIT
of all equipment except manifold in
Aberdeen |
 | SIT
of manifold in Australia |
 |
Project ROV Contractor based in
Singapore
and appointed well into the design phase of the project. |
Strong
interface management led to a completely trouble free project from an
intervention project with not a single interface problem during SIT’s.
Furthermore early liaison with the ROV contractor led to easy integration of
all tooling packages with their vehicles and a smooth installation and hook up
phase. Some control system jumpers were installed subsea in less than two
hours.
Our strategic alliance
with Deep Down Inc further strengthens our capability in this area, extending
our geographic reach and adding their significant experience levels,
particularly in installation project management, to our own.

Subsea Task Feasibility Analysis
impROV
understand the need for detailed planning and documentation of all activities
related to the installation, repair and ongoing maintenance of subsea
hardware.
impROV
can become involved in your project at a very early stage to advise on and
plan for these activities. In our experience these activities, where
practical, are best considered initially in the early stages of design of the
subsea hardware. That way all operational difficulties foreseen can be
considered during system design and, if possible, designed around to ensure
trouble free field operations. |
